17-JUN-2018
The Executive members of the Association of Nigerian Authors (hereafter called ANA), under the leadership of Mallam Denja Abdullahi, saw the wisdom in initiating an annual conference in partnership with a Nigerian University. This idea had earlier been mooted by Prof G.M.T Emezue, in many of her conversations with members of the association. The vision was inspired by the need to diversify efforts in the study of works of recent Nigerian writers. In the pursuit of this vision therefore, G.M.T Emezue facilitated a meeting between ANA and the management of the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Nigeria, who promptly bought into this concept. The maiden ANA/FUNAI conference and Workshops was help between 17th -20th June 2018 at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State. The conference theme was “Expanding Frontiers: Nigeria’s Creative Writing in the 21st Century.” Several creative writers, critics and scholars participated in the conference. The keynote presenter was Prof Isidore Diala from Imo State University, Nigeria.
The workshop session witnessed all the participants making attempts and promoting their creative skills in drawing, poetry writing and drama writing. At the end of which prizes were given to the best works.
The highlight of the occasion was the planting of trees by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Chinedum Nwajiuba and the members of the ANA EXCO, under the Vice Chancellor’s “Green Campus Initiative.”
